Rumble Ball field 4

"Better than 3, worse than 1 and 2"

date: November 24, 2009

When I played the first level of this one, I was really happy - no life bar anymore, no bombs, no holes, just the fun that 1 and 2 gave, plus the improvements from 3, such as the extra area around the playing field (so you can better aim shots when you're near the edge), variable power, updated sprites and so on.

Of course, the holes and bombs are still there, though.

Granted, they only substract score now, so if you don't care about score, they don't matter all that much; but nevertheless, they're distracting, an annoyance, and - what's more - unnecessary.

Coupled with the fact that the game was even shorter now, I'm just not able to give this more than a 6.

this idea is very undeveloped and have a few directions can be developed.
I not now if i ever continue develope it but it certainly can be some classic genre of breakout type of games.

"Also nice"

date: November 24, 2009

I liked this one, too, just like the first instalment - naturally, I suppose, given that not that much actually changed.

The changes you did introduce, such as the bigger coins, multipliers and "frozen" coins all worked very well and naturally fit in with the rest of the game; I still would've wished for a longer game, but I'm not gonna complain - even a short period of fun and relaxation is good, after all. *s*

Still gonna check out 3 and 4 (and 3v2) now.

"Very nice"

date: November 24, 2009

Very, very nice. I enjoyed the concept; it's a lovely little time-killer, and I particularly liked that you didn't feel the need to introduce the kind of crap that game designers all too often seem to be unable not to, such as time limits, lives you lose when you miss shots, minimum scores to advance, and so on.

This is a game that everyone can play at their own pace, without having to retry every level a dozen times (seriously, who in their right mind would consider that to be FUN?); the only downside is the lack of levels. 5 is just barely enough to get started. Why no 100 instead? For that matter, why not 500? As long as there were some variations in the tiles used, not to mention the collectables etc., the whole thing would be fun for days: simply play for a bit when you feel like it, then stop, come back the next day, play a few more levels, and so on. Bliss.

The lack of music is a minor downside as well, but not a big one, as anyone can just play their favorite music in the background, anyway. That said, I think this game would've benefitted from the right tunes.

Now, off to play the sequels!

"Very relaxing"

submission: PicPie Puzzler

I really enjoyed this, at least in regular mode - it's very relaxing, particularly with that smooth jazz track. It's a pity there's not more levels, though.

As for timed mode, I hated that, but since it's just an optional extra for those who don't like the normal mode, I'm not gonna complain about it.

Author's Response:

there is extra 6 levels if you win the timed mode the game will tell you a secret how to play them

"Well..."

date: November 13, 2009

Eh. Call me old-fashioned, but I just don't like games where a boss can insta-kill the entire party even when they're fully healed, with the player not being able to do anything about it.

Colour My Dreams

"Nice!"

submission: Colour My Dreams
date: October 30, 2009

Very nice. The scary effects were unexpected, but certainly fit the time of the year. ;)

I've got to admit I liked the first two better, though, simply because they had more coloring etc.; the plot-based interactions in this game were nice, too, but whereas the first two were novel and provided a different take on jump'n'run games, this one was more traditional.

Not that that's a bad thing in itself, mind you: but I enjoyed the more alternative approach of the first two more, and I also think that moving closer to "regular" jump'n'run adventures like Knytt or William and Sly also means you'll have to add more puzzles and generally make the game longer and more complicated in order to make it work.

As long as it's mostly an art game, closer to an interactive movie than anything else, a lack of puzzles, short time needed for completion etc. is perfectly fine, of course, but once you try to be something other than that, you've also got other standards to live up to.

So I rather felt that this game was neither fish nor fowl. I still liked it quite a bit, but I hope that in the next installation - if there's going to be one - the focus is going to be on coloring and "unnecessary" interactions with the environment again.

But yeah, all in all, 8/10. :)

Thanks for a detailed response~! =D
You pretty much got it right on. This whole thing was one off. Future works WILL have more puzzle based elements, BUT also stick to the traditional concepts as well. The only reason this one is different is because it is a dream, hence why I threw the majority of the original concepts inside the first level.
Thank-you VERY much for your review~ ^,,^

"Very nice"

date: September 18, 2007

Well, that was very nice - very well-animated, and the sounds created a perfect atmosphere.

The only thing I kinda missed was an answer to the question of why it was actually all happening. But still, very good!

Author's Response:

Thanks for the review. The plot to this Flash is really supposed to be very mysterious, therefore there isn't actually much of a fathomable story to it, just a series of very bizarre events!

"Great work"

date: August 16, 2007

That was very nice indeed - easily the best submission I've seen today, by a large margin. It's not quite on the level of Adam Phillips yet - but then, what is? :) I hope you'll win daily feature for this, because you sure deserve it.

The only thing that you definitely need to work on is the white stripe that occasionally shows at the top of bottom of the screen.
